Since 2008 I have supported the development of artistic languages and practices with Children and Young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities through various engagements. My experience includes facilitating transitions from the home into social environments as well as working on more sustained projects.
without words we took sticks from the near by wooded area back into the group and there in the noise of others, wound strings of different colour, sometimes grouping the sticks and sometimes choosing to leave them singular, then placed them back into the ground amongst green blades of grass and rested for a while
Individual, one to one Arts mentorship:
I have had great success in supporting individuals to establish and develop their own arts practice (references on request). Over time I have worked with many young people who continue to develop their own arts practice. Most recently I have been mentoring a young woman who cannot be in normal schooling for complex health reasons. I developed a programme of activity tailored to bring her potential to the fore. I created and facilitated a three year Arts programme inspired by the poem This is Your Age by Buddhist philosopher and poet Daisaku Ikeda.
